The great magic trick of christian nationalism is the illusion of being impersonal. By being a mix of a religious and political movement it misdirects you into focusing on how this impacts the nation and the culture. Leaving you blind to its true impact. Please take your eyes away from the horizon and see what is happening right in front of you.

People are suffering because of these teachings. The church is suffering because of these teachings. Congregations are falling into disarray and dispersing, families become divided, communities have been destroyed. But it’s true nature is most obvious when we look at the impact it has on individuals.

This is not just a source of destruction for our churches and our country, it’s also a force that corrodes your soul. The tree of christian nationalism breeds nothing but contempt, and anger, and fear that eventually transform into hatred, and rage, and anxiety and above all else pride. These are not the fruits of the spirit, not the things Christ calls us to be.

I ask you two things. First I ask you to pray. Pray for endurance, for these teachings have become commonplace and those who oppose them will undoubtedly face adversity. And pray that God would reveal the hardness of our hearts. So that we may see the true nature of these false teachings. So that the snakes may be driven from the church.

Second I would ask that you push back against these teachings diligently, unwaveringly, and gracefully. We do not have the power to change the hearts of men, but we can witness to them. Share the true nature of the gospel with your words and actions knowing that Christ will transform the hearts of those whom he loves. For those whose hearts Christ does not transform, rest knowing you’ve given them no excuse.
